ABOUT

JUAN2

I am a Writer/Artist/Comedian working out of Miami, Florida,  for the last 20+ years making Art, Comics, and more.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

“Art is the Transference of ideas as energy. I make work that allows me to give what is driving and inspiring me, to others to witness and understand and give back”

I’m a creator, plain and simple. I like making things. I experience things in my head, and I want to see them in the world and set about making them happen. In that, I wrestle and create in various media and works, whatever I can muster.

As a writer, it’s allowed me to work on many projects that interest me ranging from Comic Books, Film Scripts, Essays, Reviews, and more. I’ve helped develop ideas from basic concepts to fully realized and mapped projects. Also worked as a Script Doctor, helping with dialogue and comedy.

As an Artist, I work in various media, mostly as a 2-dimensional representational painter and chromatic abstract artist, but also in installation work and more, which can be seen here

As a Comedian, I’ve done stand-up at the IMPROV and many stages in Miami. I also host my own Claim Sale show on Facebook every Tuesday and Thursday. Also have run a successful podcast for several years on Anchor and across many platforms.

Education:

Born and raised in Hialeah (“agua, fango y factoría”) Florida, Juan Navarro has been comics and art for almost 30 years. Working in various mediums and formats, he is constantly exploring the next theme and technique with it.

Fueled by a steady diet of comic books and Heavy Metal, Juan attended several Magnet programs in Miami including the Norland Middle School Arts Program and the Design and Architecture Senior High School. He graduated from the Performing and Visual Arts Center (PAVAC) at Miami Northwestern Senior High School. He studied for two years at SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN, studying under James Sturm, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the New World School of the Arts at the University of Florida.

Founding member of Graphicsmash.com, and a founding illustrator for Steampunk Magazine.

Co-director of the CS Gallery in North Miami, exploring  various avenues in modern painting, focusing on local artists, helping spearhead initiatives, working with great artists like Aurora Molina, and Jorge Chirinos, and coordinating projects and events with the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA)

Art Director for the Oliva Cigar Company, he headed many domestic and international ad campaigns, and the core look and design of the Studio Tobac series of cigars, streamlining of the design process, and renewed trade show and advertisement approaches and design.

Art Archivist for 5 years for a TDH Art Collection, cataloging over 50 years of collected works, paintings, photography, and family artifacts.  Also worked on various special projects, ranging from 3D printed materials to special construction for the display of artwork, and the development of a personal and family timeline, while working with the artist who had special needs.

Founding Owner of Tattoos and Comics, a tattoo studio, which specializes in pop culture and fandom tattoos and houses a comic book shop in Hialeah Gardens.

Worked with NEW ERA working with clients like the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, and various sports clubs including the New York Yankees, Los Angles Lakers, and Florida Marlins to name a few.

I have also worked as a teacher, professor, and Mentor to various crowds and students, working with them in developing their ideas to whatever fruition, working with Miami Dade College (Wolfson and Hialeah Campus) and Miami Book Fair in workshops and panels.

Part owner of CREATURE ENTERTAINMENT where I self-publish and edit various books and projects including RAVENOUS, FORGIVE ME FATHER, THE GUN AND CO-CREATING TOMMY with John Ulloa, and publishing ZOMBIE YEARS and REZ.

Also, I’m the owner of THE GOBLINS HEIST in Hialeah Florida, where I sell buy and sell comics, and all the nerd that comes with it ( Collectible toys, figures, posters, etc.) and keep myself connected to the field of comics and the industry around it. This falls into a lot of the travel around the country from New York Comic Con to San Diego Comic-Con and all those in between. Again connecting with the comic industry and everything around it. Also Handle all Social media and community outreach for the area. I still work doing freelance illustration, and design while making art in the back of the shop in my studio.
